Cyclists are being offered a free bike check next month.
The Big Bike Fix-Up will be staged at the Clock Tower in Hastings on Sunday, February 5, from 10am-11.30am.
Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers said mechanics from local bike shops would be there to give bikes the once over and make sure they are road worthy.
"Any minor repairs will be done on the spot but if the work required can't be completed within the five-minute check, bike owners will receive a $10 voucher for repairs which can be made at one of the participating bike shops."
Ms Bowers said everyone should be sure their bike is in top condition before venturing out on to the cyclelanes or paths which have been developed around the district as part of the iWay project.
It was vital bikes were kept in a roadworthy condition, she said.
The event was also a chance to have kids' bikes checked at the start of the school year.
