Details of what happened to a 45-year-old man found on the side of the State Highway 50A on Monday afternoon with abrasions and other injuries remain sketchy.
The man was found between Omahu Rd and Flaxmere Ave in Hastings by a member of the public who called emergency services.
He was admitted to Hawke's Bay Hospital with chest injuries, lacerations to his leg and abrasions over most of his body and was discharged yesterday.
A witness came forward yesterday to notify police they had seen a vehicle and a man coming out of that vehicle.
However the injured man was not willing to elaborate on whether he jumped or was pushed.
"We don't believe that was at speed, but perhaps his injuries have come from somewhere else," Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Moorhouse said.
"It would appear to us, that the people who inflicted those injuries may have dumped him there.
"But until he tells us that, there is nothing we can do."
Police were receiving limited co-operation from the injured man, who did not want to press charges.
The case would not be taken any further unless they received further information.
