The Black Barn Growers Market has opened for summer, showcasing some of the best artisan producers in Hawke's Bay.
As well as some familiar faces there are a number of new additions this year, and there is certainly no better place to spend a few hours on a Saturday morning, eating, drinking and stocking up on foodie treats for the weekend.
The swiss sausage and whitebait fritter stands are side by side for those in search of a more substantial snack.
The sausages are made with pork and beef, are gluten free and brought down from Auckland where they are made by a Swiss butcher. They are prepared at the market by Kerry Schenk who lived in Switzerland for 20 years. She cooks them on a BBQ and then serves them in a traditional way with bread, onions, tomato sauce and mustard.
The whitebait fritters are made with whitebait from Greymouth and with only a few weeks left in the season it's a final chance to sample this year's haul.
Danny's Pasta is another new addition; his fettucine and rigatoni is authentically Italian and prepared fresh in the Black Barn bistro kitchen.
And from Switzerland and Italy to France, the French Baker Ya'Bon has a full range of freshly-baked bread, pastries and its truly addictive brown sugar brioche for sale each week.
Hawke's Bay seafood, a welcome addition to the Hastings Farmers Market, is now also bringing fresh fish to Black Barn.
Alongside the new faces are plenty of old favourites, Hohepa cheese, Black Barn sauces, Plum Cottage cherries and Casa Lavanda.
My 6-year-old was pretty excited to spot Sugarpipe selling cupcakes, truffles, fudge, cookies and popcorn.
And Zoe's Garden has every imaginable flavour of relish and chutney, incorporating the Saucy Sisters brand. Break outside your tomato relish comfort zone and try some of the more exotic flavours like zucchini and rhubarb. They are also selling spray-free veges.
For the best olive oil in the bay, (as voted at the 2010 Olive Oil awards) taste the range of Aquiferra olive oil. The market opening is just the beginning of the summer season of events at Black Barn including the outdoor cinema series of films and concerts.
