Hundreds support campaign to get Marineland reopened

By Court Reporter

The Friends of Marineland's young rangers collected nearly 700 submissions during public walks and individual collection campaigns and they were presented to the Napier City Council yesterday.
Among the submissions was that of Emily Otto, who steers the Friends of Marineland group.
She put forward a 17-page submission.
"I had a lot to say and included several letters of support from various businesses, companies and Ngati Kahungunu."
Mrs Otto said many people approached by the young rangers during their submission gathering campaign expressed disappointment at the continued closure of the Marineland facility.
"They can hear the animals over the wall."
The group wants Marineland to remain as a nature reserve for animals, and that is the subject of legal negotiations with the council.
Among the submissions were about 50 from people outside of Hawke's Bay and overseas.
