Mid winter Art Deco party back on cards

By ROGER MORONEY

Napier will be staging two more significant outings of Art Deco before the big 2012 event in the wake of pleas from Deco fans who heard the mid-winter fun had disappeared from the calender.
But not for long, as the Art Deco Trust has responded quickly to the approaches from disappointed Deco fans.
The trust's general manager Sally Jackson said the annual Bluewater Hotel Deco Decanted Weekend had initially been moved from its previous mid-July spot into an August/September slot to take advantage of expected large numbers of visitors to the Bay for the Rugby World Cup.
However, that gap in the middle of the year disappointed a number of people who approached Mrs Jackson and other members of the trust during the big Geon Art Deco Weekend festival.
The trust has begun assembling a July event - as it had done in the past - which will complement and usher in the RWC deco events.
"We are really pleased to now have Deco events in both July and during the Rugby World Cup period," Mrs Jackson said.
"These events attract so many people into the city - they are very important for the community."
One of the Art Deco ambassadors, Penelope Partington-Ffyes was delighted.
"Napier will be transformed back to the'20s and'30s again with an event focused on the Art Deco style, fun and passion."
The full programme of events for the re-installed mid-winter event is still being finalised and will be released shortly.
