Nobody is quite sure how many kilometres "Old Toughy" has done - the odometer stopped at 999,999.
But staff at Bayswater Isuzu in Hastings reckon the 2004 D-Max ute racked up about 1.4 million km back home in Thailand and is still going strong.
"Diesel engines love hot running and long ks," new vehicle manager Spencer Pallesen said.
"They'll just go and go and go."
The vehicle is currently touring Isuzu dealers around the country as part of a publicity drive for the new D-Max model, which was launched in June.
Isuzu had to pay "good money" to buy Old Toughy from its original owner, Mr Pallesen said.
"The guy obviously did really well."
The owner, a Thai farmer, used the ute daily to carry produce on the 900km round trip to market.
Ute owners in New Zealand usually stopped at 300,000km-400,000km, and exceeding the million kilometre mark was unheard of, Mr Pallesen said.
"You see big trucks do that sort of thing all the time, but it's not something your everyday vehicle does," he said.
