Big night out for our stars of hospitality

By ANDREW NEAL

With the Food Hawke's Bay Hospitality Awards hitting its third annual ceremony last night, general manager Jane Libby said the event was becoming a highlight of the social calendar.
"I think it's something that people are starting to look forward to," she said.
"The Hospo Awards are getting a name for themselves not only in the industry but in the general public's eyes as well."
The winners were announced in front of a near sell-out crowd of 300 industry staff at a ceremony in the Hawke's Bay Opera House.
Over the last two months industry representatives, including everyone from baristas to sales representatives, have nominated and then voted for who they think is the most deserving over 14 award categories.
"People like the fact that the people in the know are putting their stamp of approval on particular places to eat, drink or socialise," Ms Libby said. "We are delighted with the reaction."
The awards were run through quickly with many recipients thanking their employers or staff.
Entries and numbers attending were on par with last year, said Ms Libby, who was happy with the response to the awards.
"Gaining recognition for those glamorous and some not so glamorous jobs in the industry makes it all worthwhile for these people," she said. "The winners should be congratulated on a job well done."
