Gary and Patricia Webley have been going to Carols at Cornwall Park for more than 20 years and were not about to be put off by a bit of drizzle last night.
The Havelock North couple go to the event and sing a few carols "to get in the mood for Christmas", Mrs Webley said.
"It's a wonderful experience. It was a bit drizzly so there were fewer peope than other years, but it was nothing to send people packing.
"It gets people into the spirit of what Christmas is all about," Mrs Webley said.
The Webleys were among a crowd of about 200 to turn out for the carols.
In Napier, heavier rain meant the Carols by Candlelight in Napier Botanical Gardens had to be postponed until this Sunday. They will start at 7.30pm, weather permitting.
