After receiving the news recently we are once again the number-one local breakfast show and number-one music breakfast show in Hawke's Bay, we felt it was time to have a little break.
Next year, we plan to be number one overall; we just need to take down that pesky Mike Hosking first.
Martin started off his holiday, like any Kiwi bloke would, by heading off to Auckland and taking in a Maroon 5 concert (his wife's choice, allegedly).
There were slightly more people in attendance to see Maroon 5 than Martin's band, Badger, on Friday night, but to be fair, Vector Arena is a slightly bigger venue than The Cabana.
They may not be able to pull quite the same audience as Maroon 5, but they have been asked to play at The Cabana again, so surely it's only a matter of time.
While Martin was tightening his pants so he could sing along with Adam Levine on Sunday night, Sarah was braving the strong nor'wester, whipping across the country and flying to Christchurch to see her family.
After a rather bumpy take-off and landing, the van der Kleys enjoyed a lovely meal then headed back to Sarah's sister's house to watch the NRL grand final. Father van der Kley insisted they needed to be there by 8.30pm, as that was when the broadcast started. Which was true, but as the actual game started an hour after that, Sarah knew she was in for a reasonably late night.
By 10.30pm, she could barely keep her eyes open and took herself off to bed. She fell asleep quickly but was woken by screaming and yelling an hour later.
Convinced something bad was happening, she leapt out of bed and grabbed the first thing she could find to use as a weapon, ready to defend her family and their honour.
The noise turned out to be nothing ominous, but what father van der Kley proudly proclaimed was "the best damn final of a league game I've ever seen in my life!"
In her sleepy state, Sarah didn't share the enthusiasm of the rest of her family. She looked down to see what she had grabbed to take down the prowler, had there been one. It was her toothbrush. Electric, though, so perhaps she could have vibrated any intruder to the ground.
