Dame Malvina Major gave one of the last performances of her career in Napier yesterday.
The 72-year-old performed at Princess Alexandra Retirement Village with a number of young artists, in a set which ran under the banner Share the Dream.
More than 120 people, including residents and members of the public, enjoyed her "heavenly" set, with Dave King from Ryman Healthcare saying she sang "simply beautifully".
"She was wonderful and the audience said it was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon."
The event was organised by Ryman Healthcare, a supporter of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation for a number of years.
In 1992, Dame Malvina established a foundation to promote education through awards and provide training for young New Zealanders in the performing arts. One such recipient of her personal training is Hayley Westenra.

After winning the New Zealand Mobil Song Quest and the Melbourne Sun Aria, Dame Malvina went to London to study at the London Opera Centre.
The opera legend was yesterday accompanied by Anna Pierard, Oriana Kershew, Prima Volta, Allie Chesterman, Catherine Norton and Freya Hodgson.
