Melville United's flying start to the season continued as Hamilton Wanderers and Claudelands United suffered heavy defeats in the second round of the LottoNRFL.
In division one Melville remain top of the table on goal difference after a 2-0 win against North Shore United in Auckland.
Mark Jones continued his fine form this season and created numerous opportunities for his team mates including the opener which Liam Steffert scored.
Jones found space on the right wing and crossed the ball in for Steffert to tap home.
In the 72nd minute of the game Jama Boss scored his fourth of the season to put the affair to bed after good work from his strike partner Josh Davies.
Speaking to Melville United's Youtube Channel, coach Michael Mayne was impressed with both sides performances.
"All in all it was a slow start, but away from home we are pretty happy with the result. It is never a nice ride back down the motorway without a result," Mayne said.
Back in the Waikato the results were not as good as Hamilton Wanderers suffered a 4-0 defeat to Central United.
Charl Compaan, Maro Bonsu-Maro, Nicolas Zambrano and Armin Pasagic all scored to send Wanderers to the bottom half of the table.
It is still too early to call if Wanderers will be a title contender this season as the team continues to gel under their new coach Kale Herbert.
Claudelands Rovers remain winless after a defeat to Cambridge FC losing 5-1.
Bailey Webster scored the only goal of the game in a much improved second half, however the damage was already done.
It has been a tough start for new coaches Mark Cossey and Shane Comber, the team has shown glimpses on what they can achieve with them having a number of chances early on to take the lead, but failed to take them.
Next week Melville host Fencible at home while Hamilton Wanderers are away to Eastern Suburbs and Claudelands away to Te Atatu.
The Women's league also kicks in to action next weekend with both Hamilton Wanderers and Claudelands Rovers away to Auckland teams.
Wanderers travel to Eastern Suburbs while Claudelands will face off against Western Springs.
