The Friends of Hamilton Gardens (FoHG) are exploring a new opportunity to fundraise.
A new online fundraising campaign is gaining momentum, inviting the public to donate towards a goal of $3000 that will help complete a new surreal garden, part of the new developments being made to Hamilton Gardens.
Hamilton City Council partially funds the gardens while the Friends raise money through subscriptions, donations and events.
Lack of funding meant that some features could not be included in the first plan for the Surrealist Garden. This is where the Angels come in.
The Angel's Givealittle page launched earlier this month has raised more than $1000 towards their $3000 goal. This money will go towards a new sculpture.
President of the Friends group Virginia Graham said that being involved in an online fundraising project created a sense of pride and ownership in not only the garden but also the community.
"The Friends of Hamilton Gardens are excited and encouraged by the community support for what, for us, is a new way of raising funds for features needed to complete the fantastical Surrealist Garden," she said.
Hundreds of hours of work from community volunteers as well as fundraising efforts have enabled many features to be added to the gardens which have been transformed from a former rubbish dump into an internationally regarded garden.
Ms Graham and Friends are excited about this project as they hope to bring a greater understanding to the community about what they do and create opportunities for anyone to be able to help out.
The public can get involved by voting on the Angels Facebook page for the sculpture they want their money to go towards - either a tap, wheelbarrow or spade five times bigger than their original size.
The Angels Givealittle page is also open until September 30.
