More than 100 jobs are in jeopardy with Frankton retail institution Forlongs considering closing its doors for good.

Forlongs Furnishings Limited has been in operation for 70 year.

Managing director Terry Forlong said it was still business as usual for now and that Forlongs gift cards, Forlongs loyalty rewards, orders and warranty claims would continue to be honoured.

He said the business was working through a consultation process with employee.

"We have seen many changes in the retail environment in recent years, including competitors with bigger buying and discounting power making it harder for a single store operator to compete," said Mr Forlong.

"In addition there is a personal element to the decision to consider closure as the company directors are facing retirement age and this is impacting upon the management of the business."
