When Hamilton West MP Tim Macindoe opened his previous premises in King St in December 2009, constituents Mabel Jenkins and Alan Pruden were there for the unveiling of the opening plaque.
Mabel was aged 101, Alan was 6.
Last Thursday both of them were again on hand to open the MP's new premises, this time at 543 Te Rapa Rd. Now aged 106 and 12 respectively, the pair snipped the ribbon along with Prime Minister John Key.
Alan's father Wayne said when his son was at the December 2009 unveiling, he thought his local MP was, in fact, the Prime Minister.
"I didn't have the heart to tell him he wasn't," said Wayne.
But the Rotokauri School student was rapt to meet the nation's leader at the opening function.
"I'm one of the ones who gets to cut the ribbon," he said, all smiles.
And he was even more chuffed when the PM unpinned the silver fern pin from his lapel and placed it in Alan's hand.
Meanwhile, Mabel had a chat with the PM who asked her if she was the country's oldest person and whether she enjoyed a drink to keep her young. "I think you're the oldest person I've met and you're in better shape than most of our caucus," he laughed.
