Driver involved in 'bizarre' crash dies

The driver of a car that collided with a tractor last week east of Morrinsville, in what police called a 'bizarre' accident, has died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

Police said that Geoffrey Morton Case, 71 from Hamilton passed away yesterday evening in Waikato Hospital.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Kereone Road and Cussen Road, Matamata on the morning 14th March 2012.

Acting Waikato Road Policing Manager, Senior Sergeant Jeff Penno, said the crash, was still being investigated to determine culpability.

"It is a timely reminder that agricultural vehicles are larger and slower than the majority of vehicles and predominately travel on rural roads that are narrower and windy," he said.

"All drivers need to drive with the ability to stop their vehicle in the length of lane visible on a marked road, or half the length of road visible if an unmarked country road."
