Morrinsville crash witnesses sought

Matamata-Piako police investigating a serious crash west of Morrinsville on Wednesday that left a driver suffering from critical injuries are seeking another driver who they say may prove to be a crucial witness.

Sergeant Neil Mansill of the Morrinsville Strategic Traffic Unit said emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, on Valentine Rd west of Morrinsville, about 10.47am.

"The crash involved a truck and trailer unit colliding with a white van and the driver of the van was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance suffering from critical injuries.

"The Serious Crash Unit is working to determine the cause of the crash and part of their investigation has identified that another vehicle was in the vicinity of the collision and the driver of this vehicle may have stopped to render assistance."

Mr Mansill said Police are seeking this person to interview as a witness.

"We believe this witness was driving a white or a light yellow truck carrying load of pipes and had a crane on the back of the truck.

"So we can better establish what has occurred we would like to speak to this driver as soon as possible.

"If you are that driver or know their identity please contact Mr Mansill at the Morrinsville Police Station on 07 889 5071."
