Gardening: Jobs to do

By Leigh Bramwell

Winter thoughts

Keep planting punnets of cabbages, cauliflower and broccoli - your summer garden isn't going to last forever.

Get out the hose

Spare a thought for your lawns and give them a deep watering once a week to help them stay lush. In fact, give everything a decent watering at least once a week if it's dry.

Target butterflies

Watch out for white butterflies around seedlings and get organised for caterpillar control if you see telltale holes appearing. There are good organic products available to control white butterfly.

Parsnips popular

A few years ago you might not have dreamed of growing parsnips, but it's made such a comeback you have to have some. Hollow Crown is a well- established favourite.
