Beauty Spot: Soft, smooth and supple skin

By Carmen Hall

To fight the first signs of ageing it's important to start moisturising daily at an early age.

However, you can still improve the appearance of your skin by following a simple beauty regime.

Be smart and look for products that include an anti-oxidant that will hydrate and maintain your skin's natural collagen levels as well as an SPF agent to protect against sun damage.

Fine lines can begin to develop when you are around 30 years old and may be influenced by other factors, including your genes, biological makeup and the environment.

Older skin needs firming moisturisers to firm the skin and reduce the appearance of existing lines and prevent the formation of deeper lines. When you reach your 40s it's important to use a moisturiser that encourages your skin to maintain its production of collagen and elastin.

Choose a moisturiser that complements your skin type. For instance, during the day, does your face tend to stay dry, or does it develop a greasy sheen? Do you have any fine lines or an uneven skin tone? The answers to these questions help determine your unique skin type.

Also be on the lookout for enriched formulas as certain vitamins and anti-oxidants may promote skin cell repair and rejuvenation.
