The Gisborne man who died near Tolaga Bay on Saturday night has been named by police.
He was Chantze Shasa Moran-Lee, 26.
Gisborne Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford said the post-mortem examination on Moran-Lee's body was done on Monday and police were awaiting results.
He died at a property on Tauwhareparae Rd inland from the bay on Saturday night. Police were called about 11.15pm.
Ford said an investigation was under way to establish the cause of Moran-Lee's death and the circumstances around it.
"We have spoken to everyone who was at the house at the time of the man's death and the investigation is continuing."
His death notice said Moran-Lee was the partner of Natasha Holly Kennedy and had young daughters, Charlotte Emmy and Alice Mary Moran-Lee.
He was the son of Mitzy (Maryanne) and Bert Lee and brother of Robert and Lisa (deceased).
Funeral details have not yet been confirmed.
