Microsoft has released the Xbox One in New Zealand, with Lorde among the first Kiwis to get a console.

The new gaming console was launched in a massive invite-only party at Shed 10 on Auckland's waterfront last night.

It followed on from the New Zealand Music Awards and featured performances by Kiwi musicians and other entertainment.

Kiwi singing sensation Lorde, who also performed at the music awards, won the category sponsored by Xbox - the Xbox One International Achievement Award - along with several other categories, and was presented with an Xbox One console in addition to the "Tui" award itself.
