The eight-year-old me would hate the 33-year-old me right now. I just killed Luke Skywalker and about an hour ago I shot down the Millennium Falcon. And it felt so good.
Battlefront is just perfect for Star Wars fans (unless that is you only like Jar-Jar and friends from the second trilogy) and perfect for fans of multiplayer shooters. It's just an all-out onslaught of blasters and thermal detonators blowing up around you as X-Wings and Tie-Fighters clash in the sky above. Not to mention the AT-AT Imperial Walkers stamping about. Just when you think it can't get any more intense, Darth Vader runs past you and takes out an unsuspecting rebel. I'm not the greatest at shoot-em games but I do have my moments. Not many, but I have them.
The online multiplayer varies from six players to 20-on-20 battles, which can get pretty intense as the battle between the Rebels and the Empire takes place across a range of iconic Star Wars planets like snowy Hoth, the forests of Endor and the sand-ridden Tatooine.
Of the many multiplayer modes Supremacy is the standout. That's 40 players involved in quick-fire war. You fight as a storm trooper or generic rebel but you can change to the likes of Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia or Vader by finding tokens on the battlefield. The tokens can also give you different weapons or the ability to take charge of a vehicle like an X-Wing or a Tie-fighter and fight the battle from the sky.
If you don't luck out and get the chance to fight as Skywalker in a big battle then there is also Heroes vs Villains mode where it's six on six and you get the chance to try out all the main characters including Boba Fett and the Emperor Palpatine.
For single players there isn't as much on offer. The survival and battles modes are played over eight different locations. The training mode is actually quite handy and you get to drive a speeder-bike and control and AT-ST. It's a good place to start before you take on experienced online gamers from around the world. Probably the downside is because they have to stick to the Star Wars world, the weaponry is pretty standard compared to other multiplayer shooter games, but the upgrades aren't a let-down.
