Real Madrid fans have taken aim at star forward Cristiano Ronaldo following their 1-0 loss at home to Villarreal in the La Liga this morning (NZT).
Pablo Fornals' 87th minute goal in front of the Santiago Bernabéu crowd proved to be the difference between the two teams, keeping the reigning La Liga and Champions League titleholders at bay in fourth position in Spanish football's top flight.
The result leaves Los Blancos 16 points adrift from league leaders and arch rivals Barcelona.
A fourth place finish would be Real Madrid's worst season in the Spanish league since their 2003-04 campaign.

Additionally, the Argentine has set up seven goals, placing him second on the league's assist leaderboard.

The current European champions could find life difficult in Russia should their most capped player (147 caps) and highest goal scorer (79 goals) fail to fire, especially with traditional foes Spain placed in their group.
For the sake of his manager, his club, his fans, and his country, Ronaldo needs to become more efficient in front of goal and regather the form that saw him claim consecutive Ballon d'Or trophies over the past two seasons sooner rather than later.
