A New Zealand circus owner is backing a ban on the use of exotic animals as circus acts.
Carry Ridgway of Circus Magic will today board a plane with his circus' 12-year-old chimpanzee Sonny, who is off to a new home in a Zambian wild life sanctuary.
Mr Ridgway says the days of using exotic animals such as lions and tigers in circuses are over.
He says although there are still a lot of animal shows around, many are trying to find new homes for their animals.
Mr Ridgway says it has taken him more than five years to find a suitable home for Sonny.
