A team of 30 police are investigating the murder of a man who was stabbed to death at a house in Manurewa.
Police inquiries into the death of 23-year-old James Edward Wilson were being hampered by the number of people at the house when he died.
But neighbours spoken to by the Herald say the people who live in the house were "neighbours from hell."
Fighting and threats of killing someone being shouted from the Arbor Close property were a frequent occurrence, they say.
At around 2.15 am yesterday, a neighbour, who did not want to be named, rolled over in bed and tried to block out the sound of a person yelling: "I'm going to kill you."
Soon after, at about 2.30 am, the police and ambulance were called to the street, where the dead man was found. An autopsy yesterday revealed he died from stab wounds to the back.
Detective Sergeant Neil Grimstone, the officer in charge of the homicide inquiry nicknamed Operation Poppa, said a number of people who were at the house were questioned yesterday to try to establish the events surrounding the killing.
"We are still trying to figure out what's going on in this place," Mr Grimstone said last night.
No arrests had been made.
Neighbours said it was hard to tell how many people lived in the house where the body was found because there were so many comings and goings.
One said that at least six people lived there but she did not know if they were a family.
"Since they moved in the street's been topsy-turvy and there have been all sorts of things going on," said a resident.
Fighting had been seen at the house, sometimes spilling onto the street.
