A US rapper visiting for the Auckland Pride Festival has shared an experience of racial abuse he received from a New Zealander on the dating app Grindr.
Le1f, who has visited New Zealand a number of times, shared a screenshot of the Grindr message on his Instagram account, writing: "I think ya'll should never not see what it's like to be black."
The message began: "Clearly you are a thick-as-s*** looking n****r from your photo, so you probably barely speak English.
"If you ever do get an education and quit your addiction to getting stoned, then you might learn how to have a conversation. You ugly n****r."
Le1f, real name Khalif Diouf, also shared an image of a man in a hammock, presumably from the user's profile.
Diouf was performing in New Zealand as part of the Proud party at Auckland's Q Theatre.
He also visited Australia, and during his trip, shared an experience on Twitter of being racially profiled at Melbourne Airport.
"A customs security at Melbourne Airport @Melair who's been singling me out when I enter Australia just did it again," he wrote. "I said as a black man, I go through it a lot. He said 'keep using that black stuff on me, and I'll report you to my supervisor' and that he'll make my life harder.
"Y'all think I love Australia. No. I love to perform, to be with friends & to make money. These are all things I can do in Australia as well as in a number of other white-homogeneous or colonised lands, and I choose to do so here at the expense of blatant racism on a daily basis."
