Stephanie Seymour completes alcohol program; charges dropped

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) " Former supermodel Stephanie Seymour had drunken driving and other charges erased from her record Tuesday after she completed a yearlong program that included treatment for alcohol abuse.

The 48-year-old former Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated model did not attend the brief hearing in Stamford Superior Court.

Police said Seymour backed her limited edition Land Rover into a Mercedes Benz on an exit ramp off Interstate 95 in her hometown of Greenwich in January 2016. Officers said she refused sobriety tests, was unsteady, had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol.

On the same day, police said, Seymour also crashed into a utility pole near her home and left the scene.

Drunken driving and evading responsibility charges were dropped Tuesday under the state's accelerated rehabilitation and alcohol education programs for first-time offenders.

To get the charges erased, Seymour had to successfully complete outpatient alcohol abuse treatment, attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings twice a week and meet twice with victims of drunken driving accidents.

"I'm glad this unfortunate event has been brought to a close and I hope that people can learn from this," Seymour said in a statement released by her lawyer, Philip Russell.

During a court appearance exactly one year ago, Seymour apologized and said she was ashamed.

Russell declined to comment Tuesday. He has said that Seymour did not receive special treatment.

Judge Auden Grogins dismissed the charges on a request by Russell.

Seymour and her husband, billionaire businessman Peter Brant, live in Greenwich.
