Hauraki host Jeremy Wells says listeners got No. 1 song wrong

Hauraki listeners made history by choosing Nirvana's Smell Like Teen Spirit as their favourite song in the radio station's 50-year history.

The classic grunge song yesterday topped a poll run by the radio station that asked listeners to decide the greatest songs ever played by the station.

Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven came second, and the Foo Fighters' Everlong third.

But morning host Jeremy Wells says listeners got it wrong.

"Something by Sir Howard Morrison — How Great Thou Art," Wells tells Laura McGoldrick when asked what his top three would be.

"Probably Prince Tui Teka — E Ipo is a great song, and Matt Heath's 2005 smash hit Beers, by Deja Voodoo," Wells concluded, his tongue firmly in his cheek.
