Prince William and Prince Harry have reportedly filmed cameos as Stormtroopers in the new Star Wars movie.

The royals met the cast and crew of Star Wars: Episode VIII - the sequel to last year's Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens - during a visit to the set at Pinewood Studios in London.

During their tour, William and Harry met Daisy Ridley, who plays heroine Rey, John Boyega, who plays Finn, Mark Hamill, who stars as Luke Skywalker, and Benicio del Toro, who is believed to be playing new villain Lord Vikram.

And, according to reports, the princes even squeezed in filming a secret scene for the upcoming movie.

"The line given was that they were going to have lunch and a private tour of the rest of the set.

"What really happened is that the director came over and told them it was time to 'get suited' and off they went to the wardrobe department," a source told Britain's Mail on Sunday.

William and Harry are reportedly dressed in full Stormtrooper uniforms in the scene, which sees them in a lift with del Toro's character.

A representative for the princes would "neither confirm nor deny" the royal roles, but added: "The Princes had a great day showcasing the British talent behind Star Wars."

Disney, the studio behind the film, declined to comment.

Fans of the sci-fi saga will be keeping their eyes peeled for the royal cameos just as they did with Daniel Craig. The James Bond star appeared as a Stormtrooper in The Force Awakens but initially denied he was in the film.

However, he has recently been added to the credits as Stormtrooper JB-007 - a nod to his role as James Bond.
