Former All Black WAG Brooke McAlister wants her Romeo back - and internet mogul Kim Dotcom is stumping up $5000 as a reward for the cat's safe return.

Pedigree sphynx Romeo hasn't been seen since just after Christmas and McAlister, the former wife of Luke McAlister, is desperate to get him home.

"The first week he disappeared I didn't really sleep or eat and was out looking for him at ridiculous hours," McAlister said.

The 18-month-old distinctive hairless pet disappeared on the morning of Sunday, December 27, from the family's John St home in Ponsonby, Auckland. He was wearing a dark blue elastic collar with a gold bell, is desexed but not microchipped.

The pampered pet and his half-sister were considered part of the McAlister family and even had their own Instagram account, clothes and Karen Walker bling.

McAlister's desperation to have her cat returned prompted friend Kim Dotcom to offer a generous $5000 reward for his return.

"Kim knows how much I love him so posted the tweet with the reward," McAlister said.

Sphynx kittens sell in New Zealand for $1000 to $1600 and are usually exclusively indoor cats.

"I am desperate to get him back," McAlister said. "I know some people think it's so ridiculous that I'm so upset but to us the cats are members of the family."
