The normally secretive Marvel Studios has potentially let a major bombshell slip, as the latest ad for upcoming film Ant-Man reveals a surprising cameo.
The film, starring Paul Rudd, follows a small time criminal recruited by a reclusive scientist to infiltrate a top secret facility. The Ant-Man suit is given to Rudd's Scott Lang in order to shrink and break into the facility.
The new Spanish-language trailer reveals that Ant-Man won't be the only superhero to appear. A brief shot in the latest TV spot shows that The Falcon will be showing up in some capacity.
Anthony Mackie played the hero in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as a war veteran who is able to fly with robotic wings. He appeared briefly in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and was shown to be a member of the new Avengers team at the end of the movie. The costume he wore in that movie's final shot is the same one he is shown wearing here, confirming the appearance will be post-Ultron.
Fans are now speculating what role The Falcon (real name Sam Wilson) will have in the movie. Originally, Ant-Man was expected to be one of the more detached entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the promotional material in recent weeks has instead strengthened ties to the billion-dollar franchise.
A previous trailer saw Lang suggest they call in the Avengers instead, and several posters showed a shrunken Ant-Man sitting on Thor's hammer and Captain America's shield.
We already know that Paul Rudd will be amongst the humongous cast making up next year's Captain America: Civil War, and producer Kevin Feige revealed last week that one of the movies post-credit scenes will be directly out of Civil War. With Mackie set to star in that as well, it's possible The Falcon is showing up to recruit the newest member of the Avengers.
Marvel has not commented on Falcon's presence in the movie.
Ant-Man is in cinemas next Thursday, July 16.
