Crime drama Broadchurch has won Best Drama Series at the Bafta Awards.

Meanwhile the show's star Olivia Colman picked up the prestigious Leading Actress trophy at the ceremony hosted by Graham Norton at London's Royal Festival Hall.

The IT Crowd's Richard Ayoade won the Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme and his co-star Katherine Parkinson triumphed in the Best Female Performance in a Comedy Programme category.

Julie Walters, 64, was honoured with the Academy Fellowship award, while former Blind Date host Cilla Black was also presented with a special award for her long career in the entertainment industry, which spans over 50 years.

Collecting her accolade, she said: "I've led a charmed life, I really have. I've worked with incredible people. I started in television in black and white. I have to say a very big thank you to Graham Norton and Paul [O'Grady] for looking after me.

And thank you to the viewers for making me feel so welcome and for loving my shows over the years. This is for you."

Sean Harris was "surprised" to win the Leading Actor gong for his portrayal of a killer in the drama Southcliffe.
