Nearly a month after being ordered to rest by doctors, Lorde is close to returning to the stage.

The 17-year-old will perform her hit Tennis Court at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on May 18 - it will be the first time she has sung the song on television.

Other performers on the night will include Miley Cyrus, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, 5 Seconds of Summer, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Derulo, Imagine Dragons, Luke Bryan, John Legend and OneRepublic.

The Royals singer is tied with Imagine Dragons the most nominations at the awards; she is up for 12, including Top New Artist, Top Female Artist and Top Hot 100 Artist.

Lorde was due to play eight shows in Australia, starting in Melbourne on April 24, but had to postpone them at the last minute after being told by doctors to return to New Zealand for "immediate rest and recuperation in order to regain complete health and continue touring for the rest of the year".

Organisers are currently trying to reschedule the Australian tour. Lorde will warm up for her Billboard performance with a show in Baltimore on May 17, before heading to Europe for a series of festival performances.
