The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

is returning to New Zealand television just as one of its former correspondents goes solo on local screens in his own mock news programme.

Stewart's influential American comedy news show, which had a brief run here after Comedy Central started on Sky Television in 2008, is returning to the channel on Tuesday May 6.

It will screen at 11.05pm five days a week just nine hours after its US broadcast.

Full episodes are already available in New Zealand online on the show's website .

Meanwhile, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the new show by the English former Daily Show correspondent starts screening on Sky's SoHo from Tuesday April 29 at 10pm.

Said Oliver about his new HBO show: "I want to thank Comedy Central, and everyone at The Daily Show - most of all, I'd like to thank Jon Stewart. He taught me everything I know. In fact, if I fail in the future, it's entirely his fault."
