Mick Jagger's spokesman has slammed "horrible" rumours the Rolling Stones front man had split from L'Wren Scott shortly before her death.
The 70-year-old singer had dated the model and fashion designer since 2001 and was in Perth with his band when he received the tragic news on Monday.
The New York Post ran a story indicating the couple had been on the rocks before she was discovered lifeless in her New York apartment by her assistant.
They also cited a law enforcement source that described L'Wren as Jagger's "former" girlfriend, as well as rumours that she had confided about the end of their romance to a friend.
But a representative for the star blasted editors at the newspaper in a scathing comment Monday on evening.
"The story in the New York Post re a split between Mick Jagger and L'Wren Scott is 100 per cent untrue,'' the spokesman said.
"There is absolutely no basis in fact to this story. It is a horrible and inaccurate piece of gossip during this very tragic time for Mick."
Jagger's spokesman said earlier in the day the rocker was "shocked and devastated" by news of Scott's sudden death. There were no suspicious circumstances.
There is still no official word on reports the Stones have cancelled their first Australian concert, which had been scheduled in the West Australian capital on Wednesday.
Scott was a friend of Australian actress Nicole Kidman and her clothes often featured at red-carpet events.
Jagger's ex-wife, Bianca Jagger, was among those who spoke about the tragedy on Monday.
"Heartbroken to learn of the loss of the lovely and talented L'Wren Scott. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. May she rest in peace," she tweeted.
