Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke will play Sarah Connor in the latest Terminator movie, heading off competition from Australian actress Margot Robbie.
The English actress won the role on Friday after testing for the part, industry magazine Variety reported.
Sources said the studio was also interested in Robbie, but she never read for the part.
American actress Brie Larson, who played Toni Collette's character's daughter in the United States of Tara television series, also tested for the role.
The film, being directed by Alan Taylor of Thor: the Dark World fame, will serve as the first film in stand-alone trilogy.
Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his role as the title character, while Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clarke began negotiations this week to play the role of John Connor, the son of Sarah Connor.
The film is due for release in 2015.
Robbie, who played Donna Freedman in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, will soon star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street, which opens in Australia next month.
