3 News will replace its weather presenter Mike Hall with veteran journalist Ingrid Hipkiss at the end of the month.

After seven years in the job, Hall will present the weather for the 6pm news bulletin the last time on May 3.

He would continue to freelance for TV3 and work on the weather desk as a consultant, the broadcaster said today.

Hipkiss has worked for 3 News for 10 years as a journalist and presenter.

She is currently a senior reporter for the 6pm bulletin and has previously been part of the press gallery, was a news anchor on Sunrise and presented Nightline during Sacha McNeil's maternity leave.

MediaWorks TV chief executive Paul Maher said: "Ingrid will bring a fresh perspective, and a fantastic skill set to what is a key part of the 3 News' bulletin."
