Former footballer-turned-actor Vinnie Jones was allegedly seeing Russian model Lama Safonova for a year.

The British star believes he was set up after a video emerged apparently showing him kissing the 26-year-old over the weekend.

Safonova has since denied knowing they were being filmed and has told British newspaper The Sun she was involved with him for 12 months.

"If you're waiting for me to betray my sweetheart or hurt him, it won't happen," Safonova told the publication.

"There is no need to make a scandal of our relations."

The former soccer star and his wife Tanya are reported to be in crisis talks about their marriage after the footage emerged.

In the video posted on the popular Russian website Life News, Jones is seen walking hand-in-hand with Safonova down the street.

The pair then passionately embrace before hailing a taxi together to take them to a hotel.

Jones told British newspaper The Mail on Sunday that he believes he was set up by Safonova.

The Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels star had attended a wrap party in Moscow when the alleged incident occurred.

The 47-year-old had been filming a documentary in the Russian city for a US TV channel.

"Her boyfriend was the interpreter so it's just a joke. I've seen [the pictures] I know what they look like. I met her for 15 minutes, just went for a drink at the party and that was it.

"She was there and my interpreter introduced me to her as his girlfriend. His name was Oliver," Jones told the publication.

"We got a lift back to the hotel because we were staying in the same hotel - that was the stitch-up. When we got to the hotel, the boyfriend was in the foyer."
