Larry Wachowski has made her first public appearance since becoming a woman.

The co-director of The Matrix introduces herself as a pink-haired woman called "Lana" in an introduction alongside co-directors Tom Tykwer and her brother Andy Wachowski for their new film Cloud Atlas.

Lana Wachowski, 47, has been undergoing hormone therapy as part of her sex-change treatment for nearly a decade, the Daily Mail reported.

The Daily Mail said Wachowski once left his wife for a dominatrix called Ilsa Strix during the peak of popularity of his Matrix movies.

In May, the singer for rock act Against Me! Tom Gabel came out as transgender and announced plans to start living as a woman.

In the introduction for Cloud Atlas, the directors admit their film is complicated and a "hard sell" because of its multiple time zones and the same actors playing different characters. The trailer is nearly six minutes long.
