Believe the hype: Wacky warbler Lady Gaga has poured blood, sweat and tears into her upcoming signature perfume.
Reports surfaced a few weeks ago that the chart-topper - who signed a deal with Coty Inc. to release a range of perfumes last September - had specifically requested that her celebrity stink be laced with the distinctive bouquet of bodily fluids.
Put it this way, what she had in mind put that 'beef jerky in the making' get-up she wore at the VMAs in the shade. Gaga wanted her signature scent, due out in 2012, to smell like blood and semen (apologies if you've just lost your lunch).
But while many were sceptical over the reports - "she wouldn't, would she?" - Gaga has since piped up and confirmed there's an element of truth to the gossip. Oh, yes she would.
In an interview with Kyle and Jackie O on Australian radio station 2Day FM, Gaga spilled on her scent.
"Actually the perfume smells like an expensive hooker," she said.
"I wanted to extract the feeling and sense of blood and semen from molecular structures, so that's where that comes from. You get the after feeling of sex from the semen and the blood is primal," she added.
"It was taken out of my own blood sample so it's like the sense of having me on your skin."
Jackie O politely chirped: "Very creative, very different."
During the confab Gaga also shot down reports that she's dating Luc Carl. "No, I'm on my own," she said.
She added: "But I have really strong friendships that I've had my whole life in New York and that's really important to me. I need to stay focused on my fans."

Meanwhile, in other Gaga news...
The singer has assured fans that a
Born This Way
video announcement is coming "soon".
Gaga, who filmed the
Jonas Akerlund
-directed promo for the titular track from her upcoming album in New York last month, took to Twitter to keep her fans updated.
"Just finished editing
Born This Way
video," she wrote. "Announcement Soon! X"
And while logged on, she also revealed lyrics from the album's second single.
She tweeted a line from
Judas
.
"I'm just a Holy Fool, oh baby he's so cruel, but I'm still in love with Judas, Baby," she wrote.
And in another bout of lip-flapping, Gaga has jokingly compared some of the tracks from her new album to heroin.
She
: "It's quite eclectic. It ranges from
Born This Way
being very light, to the rest of the album becoming quite darker. I, in jest, say that
Born This Way
is the marijuana to the heroins (sic) of the album, the ultimate intense intoxication of the record."
She added: "One of my favourite songs on the album is the last song. It was originally going to be the first single. It's called
Marry the Night
. It was produced by myself and
Fernando Garibay
.
"When Fernando and I did it, it was like this sonic light bulb went off and we were like, 'That's the sound! That's the future.'
"The record is just this massive, gas-station, disco record, music - that every single one of these songs could have been a hit record."
Judging by the stellar success of
Born This Way
(it's the
fastest-selling single in iTunes history
), the lady of perpetual commotion doesn't need to gaze into her crystal ball (or take a trip in her
) to predict that her new bag of pop confection has 'Hit' written all over it.
Born This Way
will be released on May 23.
