Hannah Montana who? Goodbye smiley Miley too...
Teen phenom Miley Cyrus has premiered the video for her new track Can't Be Tamed, and it looks like she's ready to fly the coop and ditch her 'good girl' Disney image for good.
Clad in full bird regalia a caged Cyrus writhes in her burlesque-style outfit of hotpants, corset, knee-high-tasselled-boots and long gloves in the sexually charged video.
But is it art? Is it hell. This is more of an indulgent metaphor for Cyrus' transformation from her bubble gum pop and Disney cash cow persona into a... well, it remains to be seen. But for now she's a brooding, sexy bird with mischief in mind.
Channelling more than a hint of Britney and Lady Gaga, the star, 17, appears in the promo as a sleeping 'specimen' locked up in a giant cage.
A museum curator then introduces her, cooing: "Here is a creature so rare it was believed to be extinct - in captivity for the first time, the rarest creature on earth, Avis Cyrus."
Cyrus then unfurls, showing off a pair of giant jet-black bird wings, before chirping that she "can't be tamed".
Won't be tamed, more like.
She recently said of the video: "The reason I loved doing this video is because I wanted it to be something different for a female artist.
"It's not just about 'I have to stand here and do the whole sex thing the whole time'. That's not what it's about at all, it's about creativity."
Hmmmmm, deny it all you like Cyrus, this video screams raunch and sex appeal.
She adds: "It's a gorgeous video and it is a sexy video, and you can't really take that away from it, but it's not the premise. It's about explaining the song and living the lyrics."
So is poor Cyrus feeling cooped up and held back by her handlers?
"I'm excited for my fans and my friends to see the next step. I think I've waited a good amount of time. This isn't anything that will take me away from what people know me as, it's just the next step," she reveals.
"It's not a new Miley, it's just a new part of me. There's nothing in the video for me that I wouldn't be proud for my family to see. I think they can all watch it. It's the first step of growing up."
Yep, she's over it.
From squeaky-clean girl-next-door to avian sexpot in 60 seconds. Well, 3 mins 49 seconds actually. But who's counting?
Do you think she's trying too hard to shed her wholesome image? Gone from one extreme to the other?
