Karl Urban is going where no New Zealander has gone before: a starring role in a Star Trek movie.

Trekkies can get their first glimpse of Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy, with the release of the trailer to JJ Abrams' new Star Trek prequel.

The movie begins in Starfleet Academy, where Captain James Kirk, Spock and McCoy meet.

But all ready, with just a sneak preview, internet forums reveal Urban's female fans believe the character fails to capitalise on the actor's sex appeal.
