Melissa Leo is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in Frozen River. She plays the part of Ray Eddy, an impoverished mother who becomes involved in a smuggling ring in an attempt to avoid losing her home. She won a Spotlight Award and the Florida Film Critics award for Frozen River, and was nominated for a Critics Choice, Screen Actors Guild and Satellite award.
Leo is possibly best known for her role on TV series Homicide: Life on the Street; she has also appeared on Law and Order, The L Word, Cold Case, CSI and All My Children. Her film credits include 21 Grams, Confess and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.
