I do, says Idol host (+photos)

The groom beamed, the bride was breathtaking - and security staff spent much of their time ensuring uninvited guests couldn't see them.

NZ Idol host Dominic Bowden married gorgeous girlfriend, TV presenter Claire Robbie, in a glamorous celebration yesterday attended by many of the country's most popular celebrities.

The couple were wed at Devonport's St Francis de Sales Church before a ceremony at the exclusive The Wharf venue by the Auckland Harbour Bridge, where fireworks were set to entertain the party last night.

Robbie, voted television's sexiest reporter, looked stunning as she arrived a fashionable 15 minutes late at the church in a white off-the-shoulder full-length wedding gown, holding a bunch of pink and white roses. Through her full-length veil, the admiring public, who had gathered outside the church, could see her dark hair had been swept up, leaving a few ringlets circling her face.

But you had to be quick - the couple had signed an exclusive wedding deal with a women's magazine which saw a swathe of security guards carrying large, white golf umbrellas surrounding the wedding party.

Photographers scuffled with guards, who threatened photographers their cameras would be broken if pictures were taken.

Inside the church Robbie and her three bridesmaids in pink - Nicola de Lautour, Storm Day and Amber Spencer - walked up the aisle to the tune of UB40's Can't Help Falling in Love sung by opera tenor Jack Bourke.

The traditional service, taken by Monsignor Bernard Kiely, included readings from the First Testament.

Afterwards, the guests spilled out onto the church lawn carrying white doilies full of coloured confetti.

Guests included Shortland Street's Jesse Peach, NZ Idol judge Paul Ellis, and TV3's David Farrier. TV3 Nightline host Samantha Hayes told the Herald on Sunday: "It was a beautiful wedding. The bride and groom looked very calm and controlled."

After the service, guests were driven by double-decker bus to Devonport Wharf, then boarded a boat for the reception.

Bowden, who has worked on reality TV shows in the United States and also hosted Are You Smarter Than A Ten Year Old, has been engaged to Robbie since 2006.
