ARE WE THERE YET?
Remember those family car trips when Eye Spy was the game of choice and the catch cry was, "Are we there yet?" Well, that's the experience comedian Pio Terei, his wife Debbie and their three sons, Jack, Dalton and Teina, are after as they travel the country in search of exciting holiday destinations. Tonight they're in good old "Rottenrua" and Taupo.

7PM, TV2
AMERICAN IDOL

SATURDAY SHOWCASE: JANE EYRE
In a brooding contest who would win? Heathcliff from Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights or Mr Rochester from Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre? Well, in this TV adaptation of the latter, old Rochester does a pretty good job of it.

9.40PM, TV ONE
SATURDAY SHOWCASE: THE TAMING OF THE SHREW
In this excellent modern adaptation of Shakespeare's play, eccentric actress Shirley Henderson plays Katherine Minola, a talented but shrewish politician who is under pressure to marry for politics' sake.

X-2: X-MEN UNITED
Herald rating: * * * *
The second X-Men film to benefit from having director Bryan Singer at the helm.

9.55PM, TV2
MATCHSTICK MEN
Herald rating: * * * *
Light drama with Nicholas Cage as a neurotic con-man who discovers a long-lost daughter, played brilliantly by Alison Lohman. Directed by Ridley Scott, who creates an uncharacteristic low-key tone. (2003)

Herald rating: * *
Guess they'll always make B-movies. Here, a documentary film crew is tricked into tracking a CGI snake up, or maybe down, the Amazon River. Jon Voight, Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube and Eric Stoltz are all snake-bait. (1997)

8.30PM, SKY MOVIES 1
