Where New Zealand's poorest - and wealthiest - people live has been spelled out in a new atlas aimed partly at those who decide where public money is spent.
Degrees of Deprivation in New Zealand carries more than 50 pages of maps of the country's localities, towns and cities, marking out small areas in 10 categories from least to most deprived.
Showing up as the most-deprived rural areas are parts of Northland, Gisborne and Buller, while the largest areas of most deprivation in Auckland are clustered around Glen Innes, Mt Roskill, and half of South Auckland.
