Auckland is the country's best city for IT workers looking to secure bonuses and benefits, a survey suggests.
Recruitment firm Absolute IT's latest six-monthly Remuneration Report says Auckland employees also got the biggest rise in median base salary, up 6.7 per cent to $80,000.
But on that measure Wellington - the home of major IT employers such as Xero and Trade Me - still leads the pack nationally with a median base salary of $85,000.
According to the research, 32 per cent of Auckland IT workers were receiving bonuses, compared with 25 per cent in Wellington, 21 per cent in Hamilton/Bay of Plenty and 26 per cent in Christchurch.
The survey said the median annual bonus in Auckland was $7,000, the same as Wellington but well ahead of Hamilton, the Bay of Plenty and Christchurch ($5,000).
Additionally, 51 per cent of Auckland workers were receiving benefits, compared with 45 per cent in the capital and Christchurch.
Absolute IT director Grant Burley said one of the factors driving benefits and bonuses in Auckland was the competitiveness of the city's IT recruitment market. "There's plenty of choice for jobseekers."
