Thirty-seven students from the school must each raise about $6000 for the 19-day trip in October.
Spanish teacher Lois Hanks said the school takes a group to Spain every three years and visits a range of cities including Barcelona and Galicia.
"We also live for almost a week with real Spanish families, putting into practice the many scenarios we have only acted out in class. It makes it all real and worthwhile" Hanks said.
"My students gain confidence in travelling and taste what it means to be a global citizen."
Hanks said adjusting to a 10pm dinner time was always a shock for the students but the trip was usually "life-changing".
The school's big fundraiser is on March 28 when business coach Wayne Dellow will host a seminar on helping business owners build a high performing team.
Hanks said all the funds from the seminar would go towards the trip. The group has also been selling chocolates, raffles, hosting quiz nights and more in an effort to fundraise.
She said the trip was of great benefit to those who attend each time it runs.
"My senior students benefit greatly as they have enough foundation and confidence in the language to really maximise the opportunities presented and make lasting friendships," she said.
"Languages opens many doors for them, including travel and long term career opportunities. It is so rewarding as a teacher to see them go on to master the language or even just use it to travel. "
The presentation is on March 28, 5.30pm at the Novotel in Rotorua. Tickets are $50 from jo.pitkethley@gmail.com or 027 204 1050.
