Giving new meaning to the term model student, an 11-year-old boy has saved up his pocket money to take seven of his teachers to a farewell dinner before he moved to high school.
Cody Dortch, from Edmond in Oklahoma, did household chores and took on extra babysitting jobs in order to save up US$200 ($278) so he could take his teachers out for the night to thank them for their hard work over the years.
His proud mother told ABC News that some teachers was brought to tears.
"One of his teachers, she said, 'I've been teaching for 23 years and that never happens.' Some of them cried, and it was an eye-opener to realise that a simple gesture could mean so much," Ashley Dortch said.
Cody said had been inspired to give back to his teachers after they helped him through the loss of his friend's brother.
He delivered his own hand-designed invitations to the teachers, writing on them: "I want to treat all my teachers to dinner to show you how thankful how I am for everything".
One of the teachers, Marci McVay, told ABC she was touched by the thoughtful gesture.
"He stood up and made a very endearing speech, saying, 'the dinner is on me'," she said.
"It was very sweet."
