New Zealand's population is growing faster than those in Australia or China, a new "snapshot" into Kiwi life has revealed.
Statistics New Zealand today released its New Zealand in Profile 2015 report, which provides a picture of New Zealand's people, economy and government.
The report shows New Zealand's population is growing at 1.52 per cent - faster than Australia, China, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany.
It also shows that while an average loaf of white bread costs the same today as five years ago, at $1.80, a 400ml glass of beer has gone up from $4.78 to $5.87.
Meanwhile, a piece of fish and a scoop of chips was 59c more expensive than five years ago.
Deputy Government statistician Colin Lynch said the review provided a snapshot of New Zealand life for those who lived here and those who wanted to travel or move to New Zealand.
"We know people looking at moving to New Zealand want to know about the cost of housing and basic essentials, how much they might earn, and what the main industries are.
"We also know that for people who already live here, it's useful to have a one-off snapshot of statistics about the country," he said.
New Zealand in Profile is available in English and in Maori, and was produced with support from Te Ara -- The Encyclopedia of New Zealand.
