An armed man scuffled with a patron and a worker during the robbery of a TAB last night.
A Caucasian man armed with a knife went into the Petone TAB on Jackson St at 7.55pm yesterday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Sears said the man, aged between 30 or 40, got into a scuffle with an employee. Two patrons intervened and one suffered a superficial cut to his right forearm.
The man then fled with an unknown amount of cash via the front doors, heading south on to Nelson St.
He is approximately 1.8m tall, was clean shaven, and wearing dark clothes.
Sears advised people not resist robbers.
"People's lives and safety are worth more than money.
"Police are talking to the people who were at the premises last night and will continue to support them following the aggravated robbery."
Forensic teams are examining the scene this morning, and CCTV footage is being viewed.
